Review of Lean and Six Sigma Methodology

Short training for managers and employees already trained in Lean and/or Six Sigma, especially those responsible for Lean Six Sigma implementation and projects. In this training participants will refresh their knowledge of the Lean Six Sigma methodology, philosophy, logics, critical decision points, and tools. The content of this course is highly dependent on the experience of the participants and the level at which Lean Six Sigma has been implemented within the company.

Contents:

  • Logics of Lean Six Sigma thinking
  • How to properly build and monitor a project
  • Short review of Lean Six Sigma toolset

Duration (recommended):1 day

Requirements of participants:

  • Participated in Lean and/or Six Sigma training, and has some experience in Lean Six Sigma project management (leading or participating in Lean Six Sigma projects)
  • Knowledge of Minitab or the statistical software used by the company

Review of Six Sigma Tools and Software

Short training focused on the tools and software, to allow participants to use them in their everyday work. Focused on identification of root causes and applying a structured problem solving process.

Contents:

  • Review of basic Lean Six Sigma tools (descriptive statistics, Pareto, FMEA, fish-bone, process mapping, control charts, etc.)
  • Basic graphical analysis
  • Using Minitab or the statistical software used by the company
  • Understanding and presenting results

Duration (recommended): 2 days

Requirements of participants:

  • Interest in the methodology

General Risk Assessment – FMEA

This training targets managers and employees responsible for assessing and evaluating any type of risk, including operations, product safety, finances, environmental, manufacturing or safety.

Contents:

  • basics and use of the FMEA method
  • definition and rating of severity, frequency and detectability
  • failure modes and failure effects
  • risk evaluation, setting RPN numbers
  • evaluation of findings: Pareto analysis, strategy on risk reduction
  • closing of findings and control

Duration: 4 hours

  • interest in the methodology

Measurement System Analysis

Data collected without a reliable measurement system is unreliable, and may lead to a false characterization of the process being observed. The basis for setting good measurement systems is accurate mapping of the process and focusing on the basic principles related to measurement tools and methods.

Contents:

  • Importance of setting precise and accurate measurement systems
  • Types and settings of measurements systems
  • Common errors
  • Measurement system analysis (continuous and attribute data), gage R&R
  • Analysis of examples (data generated by the participants help understanding),
  • Understanding and presenting results

Control Charts

Control charts are an excellent tool for process observation and control, and for monitoring the effectiveness of the given process. Control charts are also used for forecasting and signaling when the output of a given process might go outside of it’s acceptable boundary values.

Contents:

  • Use and usability of control charts
  • Types and calculation of control charts
  • Interpretation of control charts
  • Case studies from applications brought by the participants
